The Birth of The Malaysia Missions Network
The Malaysia Missions Network was
borne out of a consultation of pastors and leaders, jointly organized
by Missions Agencies in Malaysia, on the 29th of October 2002 and
held at the OMF Office in Kuala Lumpur. The consensus at this meeting
was to appoint a Task Force to look at setting up a formal network
for greater collaboration of Christians in Malaysia for the purpose
of cross-cultural missions.
As a result of this, a task force
continued to meet regularly over the next year and half, and called
for a Retreat cum AGM in August 2004 where the Network was formalized
and an Executive Committee (EXCO) was appointed to look into the
registration of a name for this network.
The EXCO met regularly over the next
10 months, and in June of 2005, the EXCO called for an AGM where
the pastors and leaders were briefed on the status of the network,
and the use of the name "MALAYSIAN CENTER FOR GLOBAL MINISTRY"
to replace the "Malaysia Missions Network" (The registered
name of the Malaysian Center for Global Ministry is "MCGM NETWORK
BERHAD").
Over the course of this period (Oct
2002 -June 2005), a number of practical things were identified that
will make such a network to be of value to the Body of Christ in
Malaysia :
as a forum for sharing resources, experiences and information to
increase our effectiveness in deployment of personnel to missions
cooperation in missionary preparation, sending and care as an "one-stop
hub" for churches/ministries in missions assisting agencies
in the mobilization of churches for missions cooperating in missionary
and missions training working together in the challenge of reaching
migrant workers in Malaysia representing the Malaysian missions
movement in the international arena
